JAZZ

Show jazz incorporates turns, jumps, and kicks in story-telling and characterization that one would see in a live or filmed musical production.  An emphasis is placed on athleticism, exaggeration, and high energy combinations. This is an appropriate class for students who are interested in enhancing their dance skills for musical theater productions.

Students will warm up and rock it out to the latest songs while learning basic jazz technique. Center work includes isolations, arm and head moves in basic patterns that are fun and challenging. Traveling exercises are geared to develop coordination and flow of movement. This class focuses on developing strong lines, strengthening the dancer’s technique, and understanding the body’s center of movement.

TAP

Tap utilizes rhythm, syncopation, and sound in addition to movement.  An emphasis is placed on musicality, expression, and improvisation.

Dancers will learn basic tap skills and terminology. Fundamentals such as balance and general alignment are also introduced at this level.

Dancers will learn techniques through "across the floor" training and end class with a short combo.

Tap shoes are required.

LYRICAL / BALLET

Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet and jazz to create a soft style

that emphasizes the storytelling quality of music. An emphasis is placed on grace and fluidity, musicality, and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement.

This level teaches a combination of skills and terminology used in

beginner ballet and jazz classes. Grace and fluidity of movement are

prioritized, in addition to proper body alignment, center of balance, and

beginning turns, jumps, and floor work.

HIP HOP

This hip hop class is a fast-paced and energetic dance style using the latest street/urban dance moves set to hip hop music. Hip hop encompasses a wide range of street styles including breaking, locking and popping. This class specifically focuses on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style.
