For the last 10 years I have directed children choirs for singers of all ages. Now those choirs are being offered at Stage Door Studio! I am extremely passionate about teaching children how to use their voices correctly, how to harmonize, and how to have a strong stage presence.
I utilize a combination of music styles to teach various skills. Some songs that I choose are specifically for vocal and ear training and are performed like a traditional choir. Once that foundation is built, I add choreography and we work a lot on stage presence, more like a show choir. Through the years I have found that this process not only builds their skills and confidence but it also builds community.
Begins January 10
The year concludes with a trip to California for a competition where we are adjudicated by professionals who have performed for years at places like Disney, Broadway, and in movies. Following our adjudicated performance, we spend a day at a nearby theme park which is an absolute blast.
This year's competition will be the weekend of April 21-22 at Knott's Berry Farm. Music In The Parks organizes the competition at a nearby facility on Friday evening. Then Saturday we all spend the day at Knott's Berry Farm together and attend the awards ceremony that evening.
Traditionally I have reserved a block of rooms at the Knott's Berry Farm hotel and those that want to stay there, do (although it's not required) while others prefer making their own lodging arrangements. In the past, most singers have a parent accompany them or even bring along their entire family.
Occasionally, a singer's family cannot come so they make arrangements to join another friend's family. It's really up to each family to determine what they are most comfortable with. While travel arrangements vary slightly from one singer to the next, one thing that is the same with everyone is that they have the time of their lives and create lifelong memories.

Sarah Burke has been passionate about singing since she was a little girl but didn’t discover her love for teaching until 2010. Since then she has poured her heart and soul into teaching her students how to feel confident using their voices both on and off of the stage. Sarah is very passionate about teaching her students how to sing and harmonize, but she feels strongly that music is also a means to teach her students how to be strong leaders both in her classroom and in the community.
Prior to COVID, she had 4 different choirs for 110 singers of all ages and she looks forward to the day that those choirs can once again sing together.
Sarah has two teenage daughters who are often her source of inspiration as well as three dogs, a bunny, a hedgehog, and too many fish to count. Having grown up in “tiny-town Iowa” she didn’t have many opportunities in the arts so she’s extremely driven to give her children and others “all of the opportunities she wishes she had” as a child.
The only thing bigger than her voice is her heart and her undeniable knack for empowering children to achieve more than they think they can. She looks forward
to working with all of the awesome students at Stage Door Studio!
